Choosing our services

Surgery

There are many reasons why you should choose to have your appointment or treatment with us. Here are just a few:

High quality, safe care

The Trust is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) with no conditions. On 1 April 2010, the healthcare watchdog awarded Epsom, Sutton and St Helier hospitals a licence to provide services under a new set of tougher rules and regulations.

Clean and welcoming

We are committed to making sure our patients are treated in a clean and welcoming environment. Feedback from independent assessors shows that we are meeting, or exceeding, all the necessary hygiene standards expected of us. The control and prevention of infections is our number one priority. Recent figures show a cut of almost two thirds in our MRSA rates and nearly 50% for C. difficile.

An extensive range of services

We offer an extensive range of services, including cancer, immunology, sexual health, women's and dermatology services. St Helier Hospital is also home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and the Queen Mary's Hospital for Children, whilst Epsom Hospital is home to the award winning Elective Orthopaedic Centre (EOC).

Friendly and caring

We have more than 5,200 staff and volunteers, including approximately 1,500 nurses and 500 doctors. The feedback we receive from our patients is very positive. In January 2009, an independent survey of people who had used A&E services in England rated us as one of the best in London.

Easy to get to

All of our hospitals are served by excellent public transport links. Epsom Hospital is served by numerous buses and trains, whilst St Helier is also near the tube. We are also close to many major roads, including the M25, and have well lit onsite parking for cars, motorbikes and cycles.

Investing in our hospitals

We continue to invest significant amounts of money in our hospitals and services. In recent months we have spent £2.8 million on women and children's services at St Helier, £1 million on a new theatre for the Elective Orthopaedic Centre at Epsom Hospital and £1.1 million to help eliminate mixed sex accommodation.

Our strategy for the future

We have agreed plans to invest £219 million to redevelop the St Helier Hospital site, including building a brand new, state-of-the-art building that will house the majority of the hospital's wards and clinics. We are also planning to spend up to £70 million upgrading the Epsom Hospital site.

Education, research and development

As well as providing high quality care, our staff are involved in researching new treatments and medicines. We are also teaching hospitals, playing a key role in the education and training of tomorrow's doctors, nurses and other health professionals.
