Patient and public involvement strategy (PPI)
Section 11 of the Health and Social Care Act 2001 places a duty on NHS trusts to make arrangements to involve and consult patients and the public on planning services, on developing proposals for changes and in decisions that affect how services operate. The Trust has embedded the involvement of patients, carers and public over a number of years and will continue to develop these activities to make sure that involvement is as thorough as possible.
Local involvement networks
Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust is working with the three local involvement networks (LINks) who have a particular interest the work of the Trust. Merton, Surrey and Sutton LINks have all identified particular aspects of the Trust's work which they want to highlight. We look forward to continuing to work together to find ways in which services can be improved for local people.
To find out more about local involvement networks, please visit www.communityvoicesonline.org if you live in Surrey, www.suttonlink.org.uk to find out what the Sutton LINk is focussing on or www.mertonconnected.com/link for details of the LINk in Merton. Representatives from all three LINks regularly visit the Trust to monitor the quality of protected mealtimes, cleanliness and the hospital environment.
Public consultations
The Trust consults with patients on potential changes to services. Where plans are more considerable in size, consultations will be more wide-ranging with local press publicising meetings, options appraisals and forums.

Internal communications guidance and criteria used for decision making
There are seven Trust Board committees which provide assurance to the Trust Board that decisions have been through the appropriate level of scrutiny before being recommended to the Board for approval.
The roles and responsibilities of the committees are clearly defined by a formal set of terms of reference which are reviewed annually.
