Key standards - 2010/11

The financial year for 2010/11 ended on 31 March 2011 and it is the point at which we are measured against most of the standards the government sets for hospitals. Doing well against these means we are providing our patients with the best possible care within the resources and finances allocated to us. 

Below is our performance against these key standards:

Finances

Target: end the year with a surplus we can reinvest
Result: ACHIEVED with a surplus of £3.33 million

Infection control

Target: have no more than 7 cases of MRSA bacteraemia
Result: NOT ACHIEVED (11 cases)

Target: have no more than 106 cases of C. difficile
Result: ACHIEVED (88 cases)

Emergency access

Target: 95% of all patients attending accident and emergency (A&E) departments should be treated, admitted or discharged within a maximum of four hours
Result: ACHIEVED: 97.1%

18 week wait

Target: 90% of patients who have surgery should start their treatment within 18 weeks of being referred by their GP
Result: ACHIEVED (94.1%).

Target: 95% of patients who are not admitted to hospital should start their treatment within 18 weeks of being referred by their GP
Result: ACHIEVED (97.4%).

Cancer related targets

Target: 93% of patients who have been urgently referred by a GP should be seen within two weeks
Result: ACHIEVED (96.8%)

Target: 96% of patients should be treated within 31 days or less after the initial diagnosis.
Result: ACHIEVED (99.1%)

Target: 85% of patients should be treated within 62 days or less after an urgent referral from a GP
Result: ACHIEVED (90.9%)

Rapid access chest pain clinic

Target: 98% of patients should be seen within the maximum two week wait for the rapid access chest pain clinic after an urgent referral from a GP.
Result: ACHIEVED (100%)

Genito-urinary medicine (GUM)

Target: 98% of patients should be offered an appointment in a GUM clinic within 48 hours
Result: ACHIEVED (100%)

Delayed transfers of care

Target: less than 2% of patients should have a delay in transferring their care out of hospital when they are ready to do so
Result: NOT ACHIEVED (2.4%)

Outpatients waiting times

Target: less than 1 outpatient per month should wait longer than the standard
Result: ACHIEVED (less than 1 per month)
