The National Cancer Patient Experience Survey 2010 was published on 21 January 2011. The report is carried out by Quality Health, on behalf of the Department of Health, and includes trust level data.
You can download both the national and the Trust's reports below. There is also more information available on the Quality Health website, including methodology, guidance notes and other trust reports.
158 acute hospital NHS trusts providing cancer services took part in the survey. Primary care trusts, some of whom provide cancer services, were excluded from the survey, as were some specialist hospital trusts because of very low patient numbers.
This Trust scored well in a range of areas, coming in the top 20% of trusts nationally in several questions, including:
-
94% had first appointment no more than four weeks from referral;
-
85% of patients found it easy to contact their clinical nurse specialist (CNS);
-
97% thought that the last time they were seen, time spent with CNS was about right;
-
78% of staff explained how the patient's operation had gone in an understandable way.
It also showed areas where there is room for further improvement, such as explaining possible side effects of treatment and making sure we always treat patients with respect and dignity.
