During 2008, clinicians and managers from across the Trust reviewed how services on the Sutton Hospital site should be developed, against a backdrop of the change at Epsom and St Helier hospitals and the development of new local care centres proposed as part of the 'Better Healthcare Closer to Home' initiative.
Favoured options were identified for each service on the site, which involved moving services to St Helier or Epsom hospitals, or into the local care centres.
For most Sutton Hospital based services, moves cannot take place until new accommodation has been created - whether it is at St Helier or Epsom hospital or in a future local care centre. These services will therefore remain at Sutton Hospital for the foreseeable future, but the plans for the new local care centres and changes at St Helier and Epsom hospitals will take them into account so that, ultimately, they can move off the site.
Ultimately, the plan is to sell the Sutton Hospital site by 2016 (subject to appropriate consultation).
