Epsom Hospital Radio began broadcasting in October 1978, after two mobile DJs met in the same ward and formed the idea of starting a hospital station.
The station used to broadcast live between 8pm and 10pm on weekday evenings and 10am - 8pm at weekends. In March 2010, Epsom Hospital Radio started broadcasting 24 hours a day.
The station plays a variety of shows, with special music features every night at 10pm. Over the week, it plays music from the pre-50's up to the present day, including classical, crooners, jazz, blues, rock and roll, soul and disco.
Every hour at 20 past and 20 to Epsom Hospital Radio broadcasts 'community minute' containing promotions for the other hospital charities and services as well as public service announcements and local promotions from Surrey County Council.
The new broadcasting format will be launched officially later in 2010 with a big party. At the same time, the station is looking to increase its talk-based output with audiobooks, interviews with celebrities and local people, and stories with a local interest.
