The League of Friends is a much valued part of life at St Helier and Sutton hospitals, raising funds for their benefit and running a range of services for patients, visitors and staff.

We have raised almost £300,000 through various fundraising activities this year, which has gone towards purchasing important medical equipment, as well as non-essential extras that make hospital life more comfortable.

  • A brief history of the League of FriendsSoon after the NHS was founded, it became apparent that it could not cope on its own and that charitable help was needed as an accessory to the NHS. It was decided that an association of friends would be formed, and the League of Friends was officially founded.
  • Aims of the League of FriendsThe aims of the League of Friends are quite simple: "to raise funds to help with items which would benefit the patients that the Trust cannot fund".
  • Our facilitiesThe League of Friends has a very busy office, provides hosts and hostesses to escort patients and visitors to their appointments or to give directions and has retail outlets at Sutton and St Helier hospitals.
  • Volunteering opportuntiesWe are always looking for volunteers to help us out. We need people who are reliable, friendly, patient, honest and who enjoy mixing with others and talking to people.
  • Membership, donations and fundraisingInformation on how you can become a member of the League of Friends, donate money to support our work or participate in fundraising activities.
