We are always looking for volunteers to help us out. We need people who are reliable, friendly, patient, honest and who enjoy mixing with others and talking to people.
How to apply
For any of the following volunteer roles, we require the following from you:

Two references (not family members);

Identification (ID) for proof of name and address;

CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check if you are going on the trolley services.
You will be asked to complete an application pack. This includes a general application form containing a few personal details, occupational health form, data protection forms etc. There is also a smart casual dress code for clothes to be worn under our official uniform (tabards, and teeshirts).
If, after the four week training programme you become a permanent volunteer you will be asked to attend two or three short informal courses which are designed to help and protect you from any problems you may encounter whilst on duty.

St Helier Hospital shop
Vacancies: Friday evening (over 21's only) and Sunday mornings, 10.30am to 2pm
You will be given a four week trial period with on-site training to cover all aspects of retail work: filling shelves, checking sell-by dates, stock rotation, serving customers on an EPOS (scanning till), tidying and cleaning shelves. You will be expected to share the jobs with the other volunteers on duty.
St Helier ward trolley
Vacancies: Thursday mornings
Times are to be finalised but shifts will be approximately three hours, including tidying the trolley, stocking up, checking sell-by dates etc.
You will be visiting patients selling a small selection of sweets, newspapers, magazines, cold drinks, biscuits and snacks. There will be a four week trial period and on-site training which will cover scanning goods for sale, checking stock dates, protocol when going onto wards etc. There will be a minimum of two volunteers at any time.
St Helier library trolley
Vacancies: Monday afternoons and Thursday afternoons (CRB chack required)
Shifts will last approximately two to three hours. You will visit wards with a selection of books for patients. Large-print books will also be available for those who have sight problems. The majority of the books will be paperbacks which patient can take home if they want, but there will be records to be kept updated for large-print books.
St Helier tea bar
Vacancies: Monday to Friday
There are various shifts available of approximately three hours each. Your role will include making hot drinks, sandwiches and rolls, food preparation, serving customers, working the till and cleaning up at the end of the day. There are slightly different dress codes for tea bar volunteers which will be explained at your interview.
Host/hostess guide services
Vacancies: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, 9.30am - 12.30pm; Monday to Friday afternoons, 12.30pm - 3.30pm
You will be escorting patients and visitors to their appointments, giving directions and generally helping with queries. Common queries are "Where can I get a wheelchair?" or "Where is the main reception?". This role involves standing for periods of time and a lot of walking. You will need to be fairly fit, friendly, approachable and able to put people at ease.
