Have you been recently referred for an appointment at our hospitals?
If so, they will have sent us a referral letter which contains your details. If these details have changed recently, please let us know. We will use this information to contact you to make an appointment at the hospital.
In some cases, your GP will book an appointment with you using the Choose and Book service (a national electronic referral service which gives patients a choice of place, date and time for their first outpatient appointment in a hospital or clinic), or give you a unique booking reference number to do so yourself on the Choose and Book website.
If your GP has not booked an appointment with you and you do not have a reference number, and have not heard from us within two weeks of your GP visit, please contact us to make one. However, if your GP has told you that your referral is urgent you should expect to hear from us within a week.
As a Trust, we book our appointments based on clinical urgency. This means that we will give priority to our urgent patients, and all other patients are booked in date order from the referral.
If you call us, we will be able discuss your appointment query with you during office hours (Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm).
If you prefer to complete our online form, we will contact you within one working day to resolve your query with you. Please let us know how best to contact you when completing the form.
If you are unable to attend
If you are unable to attend your appointment for any reason, you can advise us of a cancellation or rescheduling request online or over the phone. The sooner you let us know that you are unable to make it, the better chance we have to offer the appointment slot to another patient.

If you do need to cancel your appointment, we will offer you an alternative appointment straight away. However, if you cancel your appointment more than once you may be referred back to your GP.
If you do not attend your appointment without cancelling it beforehand you will be referred back to your GP.
The Trust operates a telephone reminder service for most appointments. We will try to call you about six days before your appointment to confirm your attendance. If we are unable to get hold of you we will try again at other times to make sure you can still make it.
If you confirm during the reminder call that you are unable to attend you will be contacted again by the booking team to discuss your request within one working day.
