Children’s A&E

We have outstanding A&E facilities at both Epsom and St Helier hospitals, and there is a dedicated paediatric A&E area on both hospital sites, where children under the age of 16 are seen.

Epsom Hospital

There is a separate children's area within the main emergency department which is staffed by specialist children's nurses 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

All children brought in are seen by an emergency medicine doctor first, and if necessary, are referred to a paediatrician and admitted to the paediatric unit. For emergency surgery and trauma, they are sent primarily to Queen Mary's Hospital for Children – a dedicated children’s hospital based at St Helier.

St Helier Hospital

Our children's emergency department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is staffed by registered children's nurses and children's doctors.

All children brought in are seen directly by a paediatrician and supervision is given by consultants from both paediatric and emergency medicine backgrounds. The A&E unit is supported by Queen Mary’s Hospital for Children which is based on the same location and provides acute inpatient care for medical, surgical and trauma patients.
