Dr Ruth Charlton and Dr Martin Stockwell

Welcome to e-doctor, a regular update for the Trust's local GPs and other primary care partners.

A message from our joint Medical Directors - Dr Ruth Charlton, consultant paediatrician, and Dr Martin Stockwell, consultant anaesthetist.

Dear all,

We are pleased to let you know that we have been appointed as joint Medical Directors for Epsom, Sutton and St Helier hospitals, replacing Dr James Clarke, who took the decision to stand down following two serious illnesses.

The appointment of joint Medical Directors supports the work we are doing to get our hospitals to foundation trust status, which will see them de-merge and then re-merge with others. With this in mind, Ruth will be the lead for the Epsom Hospital site, whilst Martin will oversee St Helier (and Sutton). Having joint Medical Directors will help ensure that the transition is as smooth as possible.

We are both delighted to have been appointed as joint Medical Directors and, although there are busy times ahead, we are deeply committed to ensuring that our hospitals continue to provide local people with the very best possible care.

We are currently looking to appoint a new Deputy Medical Director to work alongside Dr James Marsh (who was appointed as a Deputy Medical Director earlier this year).

If you have any questions or need help, please contact our GP liaison office on 020 8296 3434 or email est-tr.gplo@nhs.net.

Kind regards,

Dr Ruth Charlton and Dr Martin Stockwell
Joint Medical Directors
