How to refer patients to the Trust

The Trust is committed to making the referral process easy, efficient and reliable for both you as the GP and for patients.

Our aim is to ensure that all patients waiting for an outpatient appointment,
diagnostic test, elective or planned admission are managed in line with National
Waiting List Guidance, the NHS Constitution and the NHS Operating Framework.
This includes patients with a suspected cancer diagnosis.

Referrals

Choose and Book

Where possible all referrals should be made using the Choose and Book system as this provides a clear audit trail for both primary and secondary care.

Central registration

For those services not available to book through Choose and Book, there is now a central registration office based at St Helier Hospital covering Epsom, Sutton and St Helier hospitals, Queen Mary's Hospital for Children as well as any hospital services at community hospitals. All paper referrals should be sent directly to this office.

The address is:

Please advise patients they will be contacted by the hospital to agree their appointment date and time.

  • Frequently asked questions about making a referral Referrals are handled by our centralised registration team. Appointments are booked by individual specialities at Epsom and St Helier hospitals.
  • Referral guidelines for suspected cancers To facilitate the process of referring a patient for a specialist opinion, the South West London Cancer Network has developed an advice pack for local GPs. This document contains the criteria and guidelines for each cancer type, which are based on NICE guidelines with minor additions/adjustments where necessary (based on the clinical experience and expertise available within the SWLCM).
