Independent living sessions

The Cancer Information and Support Centre at St Helier Hospital, where local cancer patients and their loved ones can go for practical advice, emotional support and complementary therapies, is hosting a series of events to promote independent living.

Over the next three months, the Sutton Centre for Independent Living and Learning (SCILL) - a charitable organisation that offers information and support on a wide range of social issues, such as benefits, housing and community care - will be at the centre for a number of special drop-in sessions.

And the sessions aren't just for cancer patients. If you need help with any care or disability issue, simply drop in to the centre, which is on the ground floor of Ferguson House.

The next session will be taking place from 10am to 12noon on Friday 11 November 2011.

The hospital's cancer information manager, Tarlika Patel said: "It's not always easy to juggle different aspects of life, especially when you're living with a disability or long-term health condition.

"That's why we are so pleased to invite the experts from SCILL into the hospital, giving all of our patients access to the help and support that they need.

"But SCILL isn't just about advice and information, it can also be a great way of meeting people. They run a whole host of social events, which could be the perfect opportunity to meet like-minded people."
