Celebrating the work of nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust is celebrating Nurses' Day 2009 in partnership with the
Royal College of Nursing (RCN) and in recognition of the centenary of Queen Mary's Hospital for Children.

National Nurses Week draws attention to, and celebrates, the contributions that nurses and nursing make to the community. The full week of recognition culminates on Florence Nightingale’s birthday (12 May).

Monday 11 May, PGMC St Helier Hospital

12noon: Celebrations kick off with a celebration cake, a Queen Marys Hospital for Children display stall, an RCN resource stall and free refreshments for everyone

12.30-3.30pm: Free 15-minute complementary therapy sessions for nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants - bookings will be taken on the day from midday and there are 36 sessions available.

Tuesday 12 May, PGMC Epsom Hospital

10am: Getting to grips with pain control, free seminar

10.30am: Consent - what you need to know, free seminar

11am: Adolescent health - who cares? Dr Jason Barling (A&E/Paediatric Consultant, ESH) talks about bullying, sexual health and substance abuse, free seminar

12noon: Celebrate our Outstanding nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants awards ceremony; with the chance to meet and hear about some of the amazing work of our top nominees. This includes a celebration cake, a Queen Marys Hospital for Children display stall, an RCN resource stall and free refreshments for everyone.

12.30pm-3.30pm: Free 15-minute complementary therapy sessions for nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants - bookings will be taken on the day from midday and there are 36 sessions available.

7.45pm: Dance teachers Jive Nation are putting on a special night for all of London's nurses. This includes a free jive dance lesson and is being held at the London bar 'Tiger Tiger'.  The bar is located at 29 Haymarket (just off Piccadilly Circus). Further details on the venue can be found on their website.

Cakes to be distributed around the wards, clinics and hospitals with possible Golden Prize Ticket (TBC).
