Beautiful crib presented to baby boy, thanks to generosity of local trader

Crib presented to baby boy

11 July 2008

A little boy, who was the first baby born at St Helier Hospital on the day the NHS turned 60, will be able to sleep more comfortably thanks to the generosity of a local trader.

'Little Angels' based in Wrythe Lane, Carshalton donated a specially wrapped crib, worth almost £200, to the Trust as part of the 60th birthday celebrations of the NHS.

Mother Leila Halid from Wallington said she was delighted to receive the crib for her newborn son, who is yet to be named. He was born at 11.29am on Saturday 5 July weighing 7lb, 3ozs.

Chief Executive Samantha Jones said the crib looked beautiful. "We presented the crib to the first baby born on the day of the 60th birthday. It was extremely generous for 'Little Angels' to donate it. The NHS is an amazing organisation and it was good to celebrate its birthday in this way."

Owner of 'Little Angels', Christine Hanson, said she was delighted to have participated in the 60th birthday celebrations. She said: "We were really pleased to have played a part in the celebrations of the NHS and to have supported our local hospital in the way we did. I wanted to donate a spectacular gift to staff at St Helier so they could give it to the family of the first baby born on the 60th birthday. I am delighted it went to a family who really appreciated it."

Christine added: "I felt it was important to acknowledge such a milestone in one of the world's greatest institutions and it's even more of an incentive when you have a close association with a local hospital. We often see so many of the babies who were born at the hospital with their mums in the shop plus several members of staff too."

'Little Angels' specialises in gifts for babies and has one of the largest selections of baby wear locally and across the south of England.
