  • Unit unveils work that helps to eliminate mixed sex accommodation Staff from the CAU: Alfia Pachina, Bongiwe Matyila and Pedra McKenna (from L-R)£1.1 million in funding was secured earlier this year to undertake a number of projects to improve the privacy and dignity experienced by patients at Epsom and St Helier hospitals.   • First day at work for 150 junior doctors Dr Natalie Watson and her colleague Dr Rajiv SharmaEpsom, Sutton and St Helier hospitals welcomed 150 new recruits this week, as the newly graduated junior doctors arrived for their first day at work.   • Local MP reopens refurbished laboratory MP Chris Grayling with consultant microbiologists Justin Bendig and Sharon ChambersChris Grayling, MP for Epsom and Ewell, visited West Park on 29 July to officially reopen the Trust's virology laboratory. The laboratory, which forms part of the Trust's microbiology department, is used to test for viruses such as HIV and influenza - more recently - swine 'flu. It has been refurbished over the past five weeks, with the work costing £77,000. 19 August 2009

The plan includes demolishing the hospital's five-storey Ferguson House and replacing it with a brand new, state-of-the-art hospital building which will house the majority of St Helier's wards and clinics. 03 August 2009
