A local businessman is helping Queen Mary's Hospital for Children, which is based at St Helier Hospital, celebrate its centenary year by donating prizes to the hospital's summer fete and grand raffle, which will be held at Sutton Arena on 22 August 2009.
Andrew Charles, owner of the Andrew Charles Hair Studio in Brighton Road, Sutton has given the cause a framed Chelsea football shirt signed by the team and an England shirt signed by Rio Ferdinand.
These latest donations have boosted the grand raffle prizes, which already include a Harrods hamper, a family ticket to Legoland in Windsor and top price tickets to the stage show of Dirty Dancing.
Andrew said: "I got involved with the raffle after one of my regular clients told me about it. Her daughter is a long term patient of Queen Mary's and her story really got me thinking. Everyone knows that Queen Mary's does a great job in treating so many ill children every year, and like any human, I wanted to help as much as I can."
Organiser of the summer fete and senior paediatric nurse, Sue Collis said: "We are so grateful for Andrew's support. The prizes he's donated are just fantastic, and they've really helped to boost the grand raffle prizes. The summer fete is set to be a great day out for all the family, and now, with these extra prizes, there's no excuse to miss it."
The dedicated children's hospital, which is based in the grounds of St Helier Hospital, will be using funds raised from the centenary events to build an outside play area for its patients, as well as much needed medical equipment.
People who are unable to attend the fete, but would like to buy tickets for the raffle, should contact Sue Collis on 020 8296 2458. Tickets are available to buy from the League of Friends shop in St Helier Hospital, Queen Mary's Hospital for Children and Andrew Charles Hair Studio.
