Fundraising is child's play for nursery toddlers

Children at the Willows Nursery, which is based at Sutton Hospital, are hoping to raise over £300 after a recent 'sponsored toddle'.  The nursery is used by the children of Trust staff, as well as local residents.

On 2 October, 35 children - from babies just able to take their first steps, to children aged four years old - took part in a challenge of their own making to raise money for the children's charity Barnardos.

First, the children had to design the track by colouring in pictures of giant feet and laying them around the nursery.  Then, once they were satisfied with their handiwork, they were under starters orders for the toddle to begin.

Sharon Brabazon, a nursery assistant at the nursery, organised the annual event.  She said: "It's fun for the children and it's a great opportunity to raise money for a good cause.

"These children are fortunate, but we know that there are many other children who aren't as lucky as they are.  Adults run marathons and 5k challenges and this is the equivalent for children - some of them have only just started walking!"

At the end of the toddle, each child received a sticker, medal and fundraising certificate to mark their achievements.

Sharon added: "It's really great to be able to give them the chance to do something themselves; by taking part in the toddle, they really are helping other children."
