22 September 2009
Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust is holding its Annual Public Meeting from 5.30pm to 7.30pm on Tuesday 29 September at Epsom Hospital.
The Trust's Chairman, John Davey, said: "The meeting gives local people the chance to come along and find out more about the work of the Trust over the past year, as well as to hear about our plans for the future.
"2008-09 was one of our best years to date, with the Trust meeting all of the key standards that the government sets for hospitals. We also recorded our lowest number of MRSA (bacteraemia) cases since records began and have put in place plans to spend £190 million redeveloping St Helier Hospital.
"We are also working with local residents, politicians, charities and other stakeholders from across Epsom and the surrounding areas on a scheme to plough up to £70 million into the Epsom Hospital site.
"The Annual Public Meeting gives us the chance to meet patients and local people and explain the progress of these projects and, of course, offer them the chance to ask any questions they may have."
In addition, there will be presentations from members of frontline staff and patients who have used the hospitals over the past year. These include how the Trust is using the latest laser technology to combat a prostate illness which affects half of all men over the age of 60. There's also a talk about what it really means to be a modern matron.
In addition, there will be an exhibition of the various voluntary organisations and charities that support the Trust, and an opportunity for guests to find out more about the work of the Trust's infection control and prevention team.
The Annual Public Meeting will take in the Lecture Theatre in the Postgraduate Medical Centre at Epsom Hospital. No booking is necessary.
