A brand new documentary that followed three of the Trust's trainee surgeons for eight months as they started work at Epsom, Sutton and St Helier Hospitals is set to be broadcast on ITV1 next week.
Starting on 6 September at 10.35pm on ITV1, Surgery School is a three part, fly-on-the-wall documentary that will give viewers a unique behind-the-scenes look at the pressurised environment in which surgeons work. It is also a rare opportunity to see the in-depth training they have to go through to become the surgeons of the future.
Shane Degaris, the Deputy Chief Executive at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust said: "We are very proud to be teaching hospitals and to play our part in training the doctors and surgeons of tomorrow.
"Every day, our doctors, nurses and other members of staff work incredibly hard to give our patients the best care possible, and a lot of that hard work is done behind the scenes.
"From lecture theatres to operating theatres, this programme gives people around the country the chance to see the challenges that trainee surgeons face."
Episode one follows junior doctors including Rose Johns, Andy Al Rais and Nicola Robertson as they begin their first year in surgical training at the Trust. In the episode, we see Nicola, Andrew and Rose all taking part in their first operations, as well as tackling all of the challenges posed by working in a busy operating theatre.
