  • £180,000 birth centre officially opens Grand opening of the new birth centre: Samantha Jones, Liz Stephens, Tom Brake, Sally Sivas and Paul Burstow (from left)A crowd of VIPs including new parents, local MPs and members of Trust staff gathered at the new birth centre in St Helier Hospital on Friday 22 January 2010 for the official opening of the unit. The birth centre, which cost £180,000 to build and gives soon-to-be-mothers the opportunity to give birth naturally in a home-from-home environment, was officially opened by the President of the Royal College of Midwives, Liz Stephens. 29 January 2010
  • C. difficile cases continue to fall at Trust Chris Grayling, MP for Epsom and Ewell opening our new virology lab, which is used by the infection control team.  On the right of the photo are consultant microbiologists, Dr Sharon Chambers and Dr Justin Bendig.The number of cases of C. difficile has fallen again at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, according to the latest figures from the Health Protection Agency. The data shows that between September and November 2009, there were 17 cases across the Trust's hospitals, compared to 29 during the same period in 2008 - a drop of 41 per cent. 28 January 2010

  • Swine flu: Trust encourages local people to stay vigilant Samantha Jones has the swine flu vaccinationThe Chief Executive and top doctor at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust are encouraging local people to remain vigilant against swine flu, despite a decrease in the numbers of people falling ill with the virus. 14 January 2010
  • Trust getting back to 'business as usual' Sutton HospitalDespite the adverse weather conditions again this week, the Trust is getting back to 'business as usual' for outpatient departments with all clinics up and running across Epsom, St Helier, Sutton and The Nelson hospitals. A small number of evening clinics, run by the Trust, at Leatherhead Hospital have had to be re-arranged, simply because the weather has been more disruptive in that area. 14 January 2010
  • 'Winter vomiting' bug hits hospitals Norovirus posterDoctors at Epsom, Sutton and St Helier hospitals are asking local people not to visit the hospitals if they are suffering from winter-related viral infections in an effort to stop them spreading to patients. Top of the list is norovirus (the 'winter vomiting' bug). 14 January 2010
  • Adverse weather conditions - 13 January 2010 Epsom Hospital signWith the continuing adverse weather conditions again today, unfortunately some of the Trust's outpatient appointments have had to be cancelled. These cancellations affect a small number of outpatient appointments at Epsom, The Nelson and Leatherhead hospitals. 13 January 2010
  • £220 million plans laid out on the table St Helier redevelopment - Wrythe lane street viewLocal people and patients are being invited to a public exhibition to view Trust plans to spend more than £220 million on a major redevelopment of St Helier Hospital. Between Tuesday 19 January and Thursday 21 January, the latest designs for the redevelopment will be on display in the Re:treat Restaurant at St Helier. 12 January 2010
