A spectacular summer fete organised by staff at Queen Mary's Hospital for Children and the neonatal unit at St Helier Hospital is set to go ahead next weekend (Saturday 24 July) - and everyone's invited.

The event, which will take place at Sutton Arena from 12noon until 4pm and will be opened by Sutton's deputy mayor, Sheila Andrews, is set to be a fantastic day out for all the family.

The day will feature stalls to browse, an assault course, a barbecue and a Pimms tent. And that's not to mention all of the entertainment that will be taking place in the main arena - including a display from the Metropolitan Police dog team and a show from Theo the Magician.

One of the organisers, senior paediatric nurse, Sue Collis said: "Every penny raised at the fete will be used to buy new equipment for the departments and we already have plans to build an outside play area for our young patients. And, with admission free for children and adult's entry costing just £1, it's an affordable day out for the whole family.

"There's definitely going to be something for everybody at our fete, so whether you want to entertain the kids for an afternoon or simply have a nice day out and raise money to help sick children and babies, we're sure you'll have fun.

"We have been organising this fete since last year's fete ended - that's almost 12 months of planning and preparation! There's going to be 60 stalls to look at, a performance from the Comet Steel Band, the Surrey Storytellers will be making an appearance and of course, there are lots of prizes to be won on our tombolas and raffles."

Prizes up for grabs in the raffle include tickets to Kew Gardens, Epsom Racecourse and Sandown Park. You also have the chance to win a Chelsea FC shirt signed by Nicolas Anelka, tickets for the London Eye and a place on an exclusive children's summer training programme at Fulham FC.

Simply pop along to Sutton Arena on Saturday 24 July from 12noon until 4pm to enjoy the fun and come dressed as your favourite character to be in with a chance to win some fantastic prizes.
