The Elective Orthopaedic Centre (EOC) at Epsom Hospital has been recognised in a national poll as one of the best employers in healthcare.

The annual Healthcare 100 awards polled more than 35,000 health professionals to determine who the best employers in the business are, and thanks to the positive feedback from EOC staff, the centre came away with an award.

Director of the centre, Brian Wells, said: "We are thrilled to be named as one of the best employees in healthcare for the second year running. I am very proud of the EOC and the care that we're providing to patients and it's fantastic to know that are staff are happy working here. It is so heartening to work with a team who are truly proud of their organisation. I have no doubt that the fact our staff are happy, motivated and enjoy their work reflects positively in the care we give all of our patients.

"This survey is a robust, statistical analysis that identifies how staff feel about their employers. Some of our feedback described the EOC as an organisation that promotes a culture of learning, with emphasis on training. We were also told that staff like the dynamic environment.

"It is a real achievement to be rated as one of the best employers in the country. And, although we are all very proud, we know that we've got to keep up the hard work to keep on improving."

Patient care co-ordinator at the EOC, Lynne Mcmullen was one of the staff members who gave her feedback to Healthcare 100 and was invited to the awards ceremony. She said: "Being at the awards ceremony really put it all into perspective. I realised just how important these awards are, and it truly was a privilege to be there.

"Working here can be challenging at times, but there's a brilliant atmosphere around the place and our patients are lovely. We all work very hard, but what's important is that we work together - we're like a jigsaw here. If one piece is missing it doesn't work - we all need each other."
