  • Surgeon thanks police for help in snow Police officer Sergeant DolceA surgeon at St Helier Hospital has thanked local police for their help in getting him to work this morning (30 November 2010) so that he could perform an important operation. Mr Aziz Anjum, a consultant vascular surgeon at St Helier Hospital, was en route to perform an urgent operation when he was caught in heavy traffic caused by the snow. 30 November 2010

The Patient's Choice Award 2011, which is organised by the Nursing Standard with support from The Patients' Association, is looking for nominations of nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants who go above the call of duty for their patients. 18 November 2010

  • 'Keep warm, keep well' this winter Logo Keep Warm Keep WellWith winter approaching fast, and the recent drop in temperatures, the chief nurse at Epsom, Sutton and St Helier hospitals is encouraging local people to do all they can to 'keep warm, keep well'. 'Keep warm, keep well' is the national campaign to reduce cold-related illnesses and deaths during winter. The initiative offers practical information and advice about how to stay well in the cold, as well as the financial support available. 11 November 2010
  • 12 months and 500 babies later, special birth centre celebrates birthday New mums, babies and birth centre midwivesA crowd of new mums, young babies and midwives gathered at the birth centre at St Helier Hospital on Wednesday (3 November) to celebrate the unit's first birthday. The centre, which gives parents-to-be the chance to have their baby naturally in a relaxed, homely atmosphere, has proved to be very popular in its first year, with many of the new mums gladly returning to help celebrate the anniversary. 11 November 2010

  • Chelsea FC legend gives extra time for hospital charity Allan Harris presents one of the scopesRetired Chelsea and Barcelona footballer Allan Harris dropped into Epsom Hospital last Wednesday (3 November) to present the ear, nose and throat team with two brand new pieces of medical equipment. Allan, who lives in nearby Ashtead and has coached international superstars including Diego Maradona and Paul Gascoigne, spent time chatting to hospital staff before officially presenting them with two portable nasal endoscopes. 08 November 2010
