Temperatures are already dropping and are forecast to fall still further over the weekend, with some predictions of snow in London and the southeast.
Every winter in the UK over 25,000 deaths are linked to the cold weather. Many of these are among older people, but the cold can also affect younger people, in particular those who suffer from long term illnesses, for instance asthma.
There are a number of things that you can do, and encourage your family and friends to do, over the winter to stay healthy.
'Keep warm, keep well' is the national campaign to reduce cold-related illnesses and deaths, offering practical information and advice about how to stay well in the cold, as well as the financial support available.
It emphasises the importance of getting a flu jab (see below for the dates staff can have theirs at the Trust), heating your home well, eating healthily, and investigating any financial support that may be available.
Please also remind your friends and family not to visit people in hospital if they are unwell themselves.
Norovirus, the 'winter vomiting bug', is a particular problem at this time of year - it is highly contagious but the public can help limit the spread by staying away from hospitals and offices if they are unwell, as well as keeping poorly children off school. You can read further advice on norovirus on our website.
Please share this information with them and help everyone to stay as healthy as possible this winter.
