Local people interested in helping to run one of the largest multi-million pound organisations in the area are being given a unique opportunity to find out more.
As one of the Trust's non-executive directors leaves the organisation to move overseas, an informal open evening has been arranged at Epsom Hospital for people who may be interested in the vacancy.
People attending the event on 3 November 2010 will be given the chance to meet and talk with the Trust's Chief Executive and Chairman, as well as a number of other non-executive and executive directors.
John Davey, Trust Chairman, said: "Non-executive directors play a crucial role in the running of our hospitals. As part of the Trust Board, they help to set our strategic direction and to ensure our patients are receiving the best possible care.
"Non-executive directors also sit on and chair key committees of the Trust Board, including one which monitors the safety of the services we provide to patients and one which oversees our finances. Non-executive directors also help to make sure we are doing all we can to engage and communicate with our patients and the local population.
"The Trust has gone from strength to strength in recent years. We are now financially more stable, we consistently hit the key standards the Government sets for hospitals, and we have plans to place to spend millions of pounds redeveloping our hospitals. This is a fantastic time to get involved.
"If you have significant or senior level managerial experience gained in a large organisation, and would like to become involved in helping to drive our hospitals' success in the future, then please come along."
The role of non-executive director requires a time commitment of at least two days a month, with more in the initial few months getting to know the organisation, and pays approximately £6,000 a year. Non-executive directors serve a term of up to four years each.
The event will take place on Wednesday 3 November from 5pm in Conference Room 1, in the postgraduate medical centre (PGMC) at Epsom Hospital. The PGMC is located in the Wells Wing of the main hospital building.
