  • Trust welcomes 150 new doctors New junior doctorsAfter years of intense studying and practical training, 150 junior doctors have started work at Epsom, St Helier and Sutton hospitals, and are already settling in well. 27 September 2010
  • Hospital chaplains hold baby memorial service Revd Sarah SewellA memorial service for people who have been affected by the loss of a baby has been organised by the chaplains at Epsom, St Helier and Sutton hospitals. The annual service will take place on Sunday 3 October 2010 at 3pm in St Nicholas Church, St Nicholas Way, Sutton, SM1 2RG. 24 September 2010
  • London Mayor praises Trust for being cycle-friendly Gloria Randall and Boris JohnsonEpsom, Sutton and St Helier hospitals have received an award from the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, for helping and supporting staff to get cycling. At a ceremony at the St Charles' Centre for Health and Wellbeing recently (10 September), Mr Johnson presented the award (on behalf of the London NHS Travel Network) to the Trust's cycling lead and waste manager, Gloria Randall. 20 September 2010
  • Last episode of Surgery School tonight on ITV1 Nicola RobertsonThe Trust is currently starring in an ITV1 show called Surgery School. The third and final episode of this three part series will air tonight at 10.35pm on ITV1. The fly-on-the wall documentary followed three of the Trust's trainee surgeons for eight months as they started work at our hospitals. 20 September 2010
  • Epsom Hospital stroke unit receives 'life saving' £760,000 investment View of Epsom HospitalA £760,000 cash injection has been made into funding extra doctors, nurses and clinics on the stroke ward at Epsom Hospital – an investment that will help to save lives and improve the time it takes patients to recover from a stroke. 17 September 2010
  • New patient phone calls save hospitals £45,000 in one month St Helier Hospital with familyIn July, the Trust launched a brand new service to remind patients about their appointments and to help reduce the number of people who fail to turn up. As a result, patients are now called approximately a week before their appointment is due. 17 September 2010

  • Trust appoints new director to lead improvements Joe Smyth, Director of Service ImprovementAs part of the ongoing work to further improve the care Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust provides to its patients, the Trust has appointed a new Director of Service Improvement, Joe Smyth. Joe has joined the Trust from the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and has taken on the role following the departure of Sue Jones. 09 September 2010
  • 'Learning to live with cancer' course to begin shortly Tarlika Patel, Macmillan cancer information managerA free course to help local cancer patients and their loved ones deal with the devastating effects of the disease is set to begin at Epsom Hospital later this month (September). The eight-week course, called 'Learning to live with cancer', offers practical advice and emotional support to anyone who has been affected by cancer. 09 September 2010
  • Children with asthma urged to take extra care Ruth CharltonDoctors at Epsom, St Helier and Sutton hospitals are urging local children and young people with asthma to take extra care over the coming month, as admissions to hospitals because of the condition jump significantly in September. In September of last year, 37 children were admitted to the Trust's hospitals because of asthma - a considerable increase from just seven in August. 08 September 2010
  • Midwives invite you to learn more about home births Maria Mills ShawA midwife who specialises in home births at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust is running special workshops so that local parents-to-be can find out more about having their baby at home. The free workshops, which are run by the Trust's home birth midwife, Maria Mills Shaw, are aimed at anyone who would like to know more about home births. 06 September 2010
  • Chief Executive set to move to pasture new Samantha Jones, Chief ExecutiveThe Chief Executive of Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, Samantha Jones, has announced that she will be leaving the Trust at the end of December. Samantha, who has been at the Trust since 2007 and with the NHS since 1989, is leaving to join Care UK (a leading independent provider of health and social care), as the regional director for healthcare service in the south of England. 02 September 2010
