The Trust is currently starring in an ITV1 show called Surgery School. The third and final episode of this three part series will air tonight at 10.35pm on ITV1.
The fly-on-the wall documentary followed three of the Trust's trainee surgeons for eight months as they started work at our hospitals. This is the first time that the Trust has given a documentary crew such access to our theatres and wards.
Surgery School is a series that gives members of the public a unique behind-the-scenes look at the pressurised environment in which surgeons work. It is also a rare opportunity to see the in-depth training trainees have to go through to become the surgeons of the future.
Taking part in the documentary has given the Trust the chance to demonstrate how proud we are to be teaching hospitals and how we help to train the doctors and surgeons of tomorrow.
In tonight's episode, the end of the first year is looming, and the trainees face their assessments. Those who do not show real progress will be asked to leave the course. As well as preparing for tests, the interns must get as much experience as possible.
Nicola makes a good start by getting into some important operations, while Yvonne is pleased to finally get a placement in general surgery, which gives her a chance to perform her first leg amputation.
Nick helps a gardening enthusiast who chopped his toes with a lawn mower and Ed faces the most seriously ill patient he has ever had to treat. Will they make it through their assessments?
