Patients on the children’s ward at Queen Mary’s Hospital for Children got an early Easter treat thanks to the generosity of local club Tooting and Mitcham FC.
Alongside their sponsors, Co-operative Funeralcare, the Ryman Premier league club had been running an Easter egg appeal at their Imperial Fields ground in the weeks leading up to Easter. On Thursday 20 April players and management paid a visit to the hospital with a mountain of Easter eggs in tow.
The players dished out the eggs, posed for photos, chatted to patients and almost certainly added a few extra fans to their ranks.
Former Millwall and Sheffield United star – and current Terrors manager – Mark Beard said: "This is a community club, and the players are more than happy to come along to support good causes such as this.
"Being in hospital over Easter can’t be fun for these kids, so we’re delighted if we can put a smile on their face."
Lin McGraw, paediatric matron at Queen Mary's Hospital for Children, said: "On behalf of everyone on the ward I would like to say a big 'thank-you' to Tooting and Mitcham FC for their time and generosity.
"The kids were absolutely thrilled to receive Easter eggs and meet the players. Mark and the boys were great - and all of us here wish them luck for rest of the season."
