Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Peter Rawlinson as a non-executive director serving on the Trust Board.

Peter has extensive experience in the commercial sector, with more than 30 years of senior management experience and 20 years of working at director level. Most recently, he was the Vice President of Strategy and Development for BT Global Services.

Peter, who holds a PhD in business, has previously served three years as non-executive director with the Trust (from 2007 to 2010) and re-joins the organisation after a year's posting with Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO) in Vietnam, where he and his wife worked to set up a schooling programme for children with special needs.

Peter said: "I am delighted to re-join the Trust Board at such an important time in the hospitals' history. With my previous experience as non-executive director and recent knowledge of the organisation, I can have an instant impact in the role."

Peter also has significant experience in the voluntary sector and is on the Board of Bournemouth University, a Trustee of the Stroke Association, and a Trustee for the CfBT Education Trust (a not-for-profit organisation set up to deliver education services worldwide).

Laurence Newman, Trust Chair (who has recently been appointed as substantive Chair from the interim position he has held since July of this year), said: "I am delighted that Peter is re-joining the Trust Board after spending 12 months helping others in Vietnam. This is an exciting and challenging time for our hospitals, but Peter's experience of working with the Trust, combined with his significant experience outside, will help no end as we move forward."

Dr Rawlinson's appointment has been managed by the Appointments Commission.

All non-executive appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan principles there is a requirement for public appointees' political activity (if any declared) to be made public.

Dr Rawlinson has not declared any political or other interests and does not hold any ministerial appointments. This appointment was made in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments' Code of Practice.

Dr Rawlinson's re-appointment means his new term will run from 17 November to 31 March 2013. This post is remunerated at £6,096 per annum.
