The best of 2011 in pictures

2011 was another fantastic year for our hospitals, with some amazing highpoints. Here are just a few photos from the special events, celebrations and occasions that we have marked during the past 12 months.

Fluoroscopic unit at Epsom

In March we unveliled a £200,000 X-ray unit at Epsom Hospital that was funded by the Friends of Epsom and West Park Hospitals.

The room was completely refurbished, with new equipment installed - including a £170,000 'fluorscopic unit', which can take 15 images every second to create a moving image of a patient's insides.

Guests at the official opening of the unit included The Right Honourable Lord Ashley of Stoke (front centre), Dr Geoffrey Robb (2nd left, back) Chairman of the Friends, and Charlotte Hamilton (3rd left, back), the Trust's Deputy Director of Operations.

In October, the St Helier and Sutton League of Friends donated a new £75,000 ultrasound scanner to Sutton Hospital.

This is great news for our patients and staff, as the new piece of equipment will allow our clinicians to spot life-threatening conditions faster than ever before.

In the picture from left to right is: Diana Everington, member of the League of Friends, Val Brundle, Chair of the League of Friends, Dr Andrew Keane, Director of People and Organisational Development Kevin Croft, Mina Deved and Seena Jaguegivane, radiographer.

Mark, Grace and Marcus

Players from the Premiership team Fulham FC helped to spread Christmas cheer amongst some of our younger patients in December, as they paid a visit to Queen Mary's Hospital for Children.

The players spent time chatting to the children and donated gifts that they paid for themselves.

In this picture are goalkeepers Mark Schwarzer and Marcus Bettinelli with patient Grace.
