Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust is pleased to announce the appointment of Cherry McCormack as a new non-executive director.
Cherry lives in Raynes Park and has over 25 years' experience of working in the financial services industry, most recently at Northern Trust Global Investments where she was senior vice president in charge of product and business strategy for the international business. Her experience also includes the well-known international companies Citibank and IBM Consulting.
Cherry, who is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, said: "I am passionate about the NHS and want to use my skills and experience to benefit our local NHS hospitals.
"I have been a patient at the Trust, so it's an organisation that is already close to my heart. After losing both my parents, I wanted, in particular, to help the NHS improve the way elderly patients are treated - an area I am pleased to say the Trust is doing well in.
"I'm definitely looking forward to working with doctors, nurses and other hospital staff to build on our success and make sure all our patients receive the best possible care in our hospitals."
Trust Chairman John Davey said: "I am very pleased to welcome Cherry to the Trust Board. She is an active member of the local community and 25 years in the City is an invaluable experience. Her expertise in leading change will be welcome at the Board as we take both Epsom and St Helier hospitals to foundation trust status, whether on their own or in partnership with another organisation."
Cherry also enjoys travelling and has just returned from a trip to southeast Asia where she spent time in Laos volunteering by teaching children how to read. She and her husband are also keen cyclists, tennis players and gardeners. Cherry added: "I bake a pretty good chocolate cake, so the cycling and the tennis is something of a necessity."
Cherry replaces Jan Sawkins, who left the Trust Board on 1 February to take up the post of Chair of the Project Board tasked with ensuring Epsom and St Helier hospitals achieve foundation trust status.
Cherry's term officially began on 3 February 2011 and will run until 31 March 2013. The remuneration for the post is £6,096 per annum.
All non-executive appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations there is a requirement for public appointees' political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Cherry has not declared any political or other interests and does not hold any ministerial appointments.
