Hospitals welcome newest member on Board

Patricia Baskerville

11 January 2011

Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust is delighted to announce the appointment of Patricia Baskerville CBE as a new Non-executive Director.

Patricia, who lives in Kingston, is a senior civil servant and has considerable experience of the public sector, having worked for the Prison Service and the National Offender Management Service for the past ten years. Patricia has also served as a magistrate at Kingston Magistrates Court for 23 years, including chairing the court's youth panel.

Patricia said: "The NHS is a great organisation, and - like the rest of the public sector -faces real challenges in the years ahead. However, there are also great opportunities for us to work imaginatively to make sure both Epsom and St Helier hospitals enjoy safe, secure and bright futures.

"The Trust has made great strides forward in recent years and I'm extremely keen to help continue the improvements it has made. I'm looking forward to working with the Trust's executive and non-executive team, and its doctors and nurses and other professionals, to make sure we continue to give each and every patient the very best possible care."

Trust Chairman John Davey said: "I am delighted to welcome Patricia to the Trust Board. She has a wealth of experience, both in the public sector and in the community, and she will be a real asset to the Trust.

"Patricia also has extensive knowledge of managing change in organisations, which will be invaluable to the Board as we take both Epsom and St Helier hospitals to foundation trust status, whether on their own or in partnership with another organisation."

Patricia, whose husband is a vascular surgeon at Kings' College Hospital in London, also enjoys gardening, growing vegetables, and spending time with her grandchildren. She received a CBE in June 2010 for her work as the Head of Safer Custody and Offender Policy at the National Offender Management Service.

Patricia's four-year term officially began on 1 January 2011 and will run until 31 December 2014 and the remuneration for the post is £6,096 per annum.

All non-executive appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations there is a requirement for public appointees' political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Patricia has not declared any political or other interests and does not hold any ministerial appointments. This appointment was made in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments' Code of Practice.

Patricia replaces Peter Rawlinson, who moved overseas in November 2010.
