  • Cancer information and support centre is a 'fantastic facility' says local MP Chief Executive Matthew Hopkins, far right, Tom Brake MP (second right) with matron George Donley (in blue) and members of the physiotherapy team.Tom Brake, the MP for Carshalton and Wallington, has praised the cancer service at St Helier Hospital, following a visit last week (20 June). During a tour of the hospital, Mr Brake met with staff and volunteers and took the chance to look around our Cancer Information and Support Centre. 29 June 2011

  • Nurse of steel takes on Ironman Hannah during her time working in a rural health clinic in Ghana - the reason she chose to support Malaria No MoreA nurse from the children's A&E department at St Helier Hospital is to take part in an 'Ironman' triathlon - an event that will see her swim for 2.4 miles, cycle for 112 miles and run a full marathon - all in less than 17 hours. Hannah Fisher, a senior staff nurse who lives in Raynes Park, will be taking on the challenge to raise funds for anti-malaria charity, Malaria No More, after she spent time volunteering with malaria sufferers in Ghana last year. 15 June 2011

Kevin, who lives in Kingston, has worked for the NHS for 18 years and joins from NHS North West London, the organisation responsible for running NHS services in north west London. 14 June 2011

  • Eye clinic unveils new 'quiet room' at Sutton Hospital Friends, family and former colleagues at the opening of Ellie's Room, Sutton Hospital.Nurses and their colleagues, friends and relatives came together at Sutton Hospital last month (May) to unveil a brand new 'quiet room' at the eye clinic. The room has been specially designed to give patients the privacy they may need when coming to terms with bad news. 09 June 2011

James has been at Epsom, Sutton and St Helier hospitals for eight years, joining as a renal (kidney) consultant in 2003, before being made lead consultant for transplantation and, subsequently, clinical director for renal services. 08 June 2011
  • Minister of State spins the discs at Radio St Helier Paul Burstow in the studioPaul Burstow, the MP for Sutton and Cheam and the Minister of State for Care Services, took some time out of his busy schedule recently (25 May 2011) to co-present a show on Radio St Helier. Coming straight from Parliament, where he had just listened to President Barack Obama give a historic speech to both the House of Lords and the House of Commons, Mr Burstow joined forces with the team of volunteers who run the in-house radio station at St Helier Hospital. 07 June 2011
  • Best foot forward for charity walk 2009 EOC walk, Nonsuch MansionPatients of the Elective Orthopaedic Centre (EOC), their families and friends will soon be putting their best foot forward for charity by taking part in a sponsored walk around Nonsuch Park. The EOC, which is a clinical centre of excellence based at Epsom Hospital, is holding a charity walk to raise money for the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation. 07 June 2011
  • Don't take chances over E.coli outbreak, urges senior doctor Prevent the spread of infection by washing all uncooked fruit and vegetables before eating.The recent E.coli outbreak in northern Germany has prompted the most senior microbiologist at Epsom, Sutton and St Helier hospitals to issue words of advice to local people. 03 June 2011
