Patients of the Elective Orthopaedic Centre (EOC), their families and friends will soon be putting their best foot forward for charity by taking part in a sponsored walk around Nonsuch Park, taking place at 2pm on Sunday 12 June.
The EOC, which is a clinical centre of excellence based at Epsom Hospital, is holding a charity walk to raise money for the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation. Every penny raised for the Foundation funds developments in education, supports vital research and works towards continuing improvement in patient care.
The walk itself will be a mile-long, leisurely stroll around Nonsuch Mansion’s beautiful rose gardens. There will also be a traditional fete and entertainment provided by Radio St Helier, all of which promises to be an exciting day out for all the family.
The previous Walk was held in summer 2009, with more than 700 walkers, ranging from toddlers to nonagenarians, many of whom had undergone hip or knee replacements over recent years.
Mr Richard Field is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon and Director of Research at EOC. He said: “The last time we held this event it was a huge success and raised an incredible £85,000 for the Foundation. I am confident that, with the sun shining, this year’s event will be just as good.
“Anyone who has experienced the need for orthopaedic surgery will understand the importance of research and the development of new ideas for treating orthopaedic conditions, which in many instances can be very disabling.
“This walk is open to anyone affected by orthopaedic issues, and we especially welcome children and grandchildren. Just by asking family, friends and colleagues for a few pounds’ sponsorship, everyone who takes part makes a massive contribution towards the field of orthopaedic medicine.”
