Tom Brake, the MP for Carshalton and Wallington, has praised the cancer service at St Helier Hospital, following a visit last week (20 June).
During a tour of the hospital, Mr Brake met with staff and volunteers and took the chance to look around our Cancer Information and Support Centre - a place where cancer patients and their loved ones can go for practical advice, emotional support and complementary therapies.
Mr Brake said: "It was great to be able to see how staff and volunteers at St Helier offer care and support to cancer patients and their families. The new centre is a fantastic facility for local people, and I hope it continues to go from strength to strength.
Mr Brake also dropped into the newly refurbished hospital shop, which is run by volunteers from the Sutton and St Helier League of Friends. He added: "Their commitment to the hospital was obvious and I know they raise hundreds of thousands of pounds each year to support the hospital, its patients and staff."
Finally, Mr Brake chatted to hospital physiotherapists and matrons at an information stand marking National Falls Awareness Week. George Donley, a matron for the care of the elderly wards at St Helier, said: "It was fantastic to meet Mr Brake, and have the chance to speak with him about the work that we're doing."
Chief Executive, Matthew Hopkins, who guided Mr Brake around the hospital, said: "It was a pleasure to be able to introduce him to some of our dedicated staff and volunteers."
