Queen Mary's Hospital for Children was presented with a £150 cheque recently (23 May), after young pupils from Beddington Infants School in Wallington used their special 'princess and pirates' disco to raise money for the cause.

Children from the school and parents from Beddington Buddies (the school's parent teachers association) handed the donation to the Clinical Director of Women and Children's services, Dr Rim El-Rifai and Head of Nursing, Pauline Fonteriz at a cheque presentation last week.

Julie Alger from the Beddington Buddies said: "A lot of parents at the school gave birth at St Helier, and most of us have needed to come back since to get treatment for our kids, so it's definitely an organisation that's close to out hearts.

"The children were really keen to raise money for the hospital, so when the time came for their disco, they all paid to decorate a heart with a special message. It was a very sweet thing to do, and of course, we are really pleased that we could help our local children's hospital at the same time."

Dr Rim El-Rifai said: "We are so thankful to the children, families and staff of Beddington Infants School for this generous donation.

"We are humbled that the pupils gave up their time to do something so thoughtful for the patients at Queen Mary's, as this money will help us to buy new equipment. We owe each and every one of the pirates and princesses (as well as their parents) a very special thank you."
