  • MP visits to hear about redevelopment plans Richard Ottaway MPThe MP for Croydon South, Richard Ottaway, visited St Helier Hospital recently (25 March 2011) for a special briefing about plans to spend £219 million redeveloping the site. As well as viewing the latest designs and drawings for the scheme, Mr Ottaway spent time meeting with staff who are leading the multi-million pound project. 30 March 2011

  • Support from doctors for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month Even healthy men should consider booking a prostate examination once they reach their fifties.Top doctors at Epsom and St Helier hospitals are backing Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and are urging men to take their health seriously. On average, one in nine men will experience prostate cancer during their lifetime. Currently around a quarter of a million men are living with the disease in the UK and by the end of the year another 37,000 will be diagnosed. It is the most common form of cancer in men - and this year alone, 10,000 men will die as a consequence. 23 March 2011

  • Trust welcomes new Director of Finance Chrisha AlagaratnamEpsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust is pleased to announce the appointment of Chrisha Alagaratnam as its new Director of Finance. Chrisha, who is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, joins after 16 years of working in the NHS. 17 March 2011

  • Hospitals launch life-saving training for hostile environments Accident and emergency departmentEpsom and St Helier hospitals are launching the UK's first ever A&E (accident and emergency) based training course for people preparing to travel to conflicts and hostile environments around the world. From this summer, international journalists, business travellers, and those working for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) will receive expert tuition from doctors and nurses in the hospitals' busy A&E departments. 08 March 2011

Last year, the Trust launched a comprehensive review of car parking known as 'The Big Conversation', to find out how its car parks could be improved, while still keeping them safe, accessible and fair for the hundreds of thousands of people that use them each year. 03 March 2011
  • £200,000 x-ray room opens at Epsom Hospital The Right Honourable Lord Ashley of Stoke (front centre) officially opens the new unit at an event attended by Trust staff and volunteers, including Dr Geoffrey Robb (2nd left, back) Chairman of the Friends, and Charlotte Hamilton (3rd left, back), tA new £200,000 x-ray room at Epsom Hospital was officially opened in front of a crowd of patients, visitors, staff, volunteers and VIPs recently. The facility - which was generously funded by the hospital's League of Friends - houses a brand new specialist unit which can take up to 15 images per second to create a moving image of a patient's insides. 03 March 2011
  • Trust surgeon teaches ITV1 star tips of the trade Michelle Asante and Pieter Le RouxA star of ITV1's major new drama series, Monroe, prepared for her role in the show by spending time with a surgical team from Epsom and St Helier hospitals. Actress Michelle Asante, who plays shy junior doctor Kitty Wilson in the primetime medical drama, shadowed one of the Trust's leading surgeons. 03 March 2011
