31 March 2011

Patients, staff, visitors and volunteers celebrated the arrival of new electrocardiograph (ECG) machine to the dedicated stroke unit, Britten ward, at Epsom Hospital in March.

The state-of-the-art machine was funded by a charitable donation from the international company ExxonMobil, based in Leatherhead, to Epsom Medical Equipment Fund, a charity which supports the work of the hospital.

Rachel Gallifent is a clinical nurse specialist on the stroke unit at the hospital.  She said: "The machine is the very latest technology - it gives us quick, detailed and sensitive information about how a patient's heart is functioning, and it is proving to be invaluable with the assessment, treatment and monitoring of patients who are acutely unwell."
