  • Massive £742,000 cash boost for emergency care A patient receives emergency treatmentThe care given to patients admitted to Epsom and St Helier hospitals in a life-threatening or emergency situation is set to even further improve, thanks to an investment of more than £740,000. The significant cash boost will fund an additional team of six senior doctors across both sites, who will assess seriously ill or injured patients as soon as they are admitted to hospital. 22 September 2011
  • Hospitals back new bowel cancer campaign Dr Martin Stockwell and Dr Ruth CharltonThe two most senior doctors at Epsom, Sutton and St Helier hospitals have added their support to the first national Government campaign to raise awareness of bowel cancer. Launched on 16 September 2011 by the Health Minister and local MP, Paul Burstow, the campaign focuses on highlighting the symptoms of the illness. 19 September 2011
  • Trust announces appointment of two new top doctors Dr Martin StockwellEpsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Ruth Charlton and Dr Martin Stockwell as joint Medical Directors. Ruth and Martin, who have both been Deputy Medical Directors for the Trust since May 2008, will replace Dr James Clarke, who has stood down following two serious illnesses. 14 September 2011

  • Hospital staff show real pedal power Ben and Jamie get ready to pedalA team of staff from Epsom, Sutton and St Helier hospitals have pedalled far enough to get them to the Caribbean, as they took part in this year's London Cycle Challenge. The team of 22 staff members cycled an impressive 4,374 miles over a four week period, burning off 218,700 calories between them and saving 2,187 tonnes of carbon. 06 September 2011

Dr Brendan Affley and Dr Ratneshwari Jha's appointments form part of a £760,000 investment announced by the Trust Board last year to improve stroke services at the hospital. 05 September 2011

St Helier prepares for demolition works A two-man team test the ground beneath the car park at St Helier Hospital.The £219 million redevelopment of St Helier Hospital has taken another step forward with a team of expert ground surveyors boring holes of up to 200 feet across the site in preparation for building work to start. A team of specialists spent a total of three weeks drilling bore holes to check that the ground near to where demolition work will take place is strong enough. 05 September 2011
  • Hospitals welcome 164 new junior doctors to the fold Junior doctors 2011There's been an influx of new faces around the Trust lately as 164 junior doctors started work at Epsom, Sutton and St Helier hospitals last month. For some, they are progressing onto their second, third (or more) years of studying, whilst for 39 newly-qualified doctors this is their first ever experience of working in a hospital. 02 September 2011
