Local people are being given the chance to look back at how Epsom, Sutton and St Helier hospitals performed over the last year, put their questions to hospital bosses and hear presentations from staff and patients at the upcoming Annual Public Meeting.

Taking place from 5pm to 7.30pm on Thursday 29 September 2011 at Epsom Hospital, the Annual Public Meeting will also feature more than 15 information stalls representing a range of the hospitals' charities and clinical departments.

The Trust's Chief Executive Matthew Hopkins said: "The meeting gives patients and other local people the chance to find out more about the work of our hospitals during the past year, as well our plans for the future.

"2010-11 was another challenging but successful year, with the Trust doing extremely well against the key standards that the Department of Health sets for hospitals. We also recorded our lowest number of MRSA (bacteraemia) since records began and our plans to spend £219 million redeveloping St Helier were re-approved by the new Government.

"New investment has also been ploughed into Epsom, including £2.5 million on a complete revamp of the day case unit and £1 million on a brand new theatre for the Elective Orthopaedic Centre.

"The Annual Public Meeting gives us the chance to meet patients and local people and, of course, offer them the chance to ask any questions they may have."

In addition, there will be presentations from members of staff and patients who have used the hospitals over the past year. This includes a presentation from Mr Hassan Shehata, a consultant gynaecologist and obstetrician who will be talking about his pioneering treatment of recurrent miscarriages; and matron Suzan Thompson, who will be telling us about a day in the life of a modern matron.

The Annual Public Meeting will take in the Lecture Theatre in the Postgraduate Medical Centre (PGMC) at Epsom. No booking is necessary.
