As a new year begins, I would like to wish all of our patients and local people the very best for 2012.
It's likely to be another busy 12 months for our hospitals, but I'm confident that we can make it another successful and rewarding year.
21 safest hospitals
We finished 2011 on a high, with us being named as one of the 21 safest hospitals in the country by the Dr Foster Hospital Guide.
And we already have a number of things to look forward to in the early part of this year. This includes the official opening of the £2.5 million day case unit at Epsom and, subject to final approval, beginning the move of services and staff from Ferguson House at St Helier so that the building can be demolished as part of the £219 million redevelopment.
A year like no other
2012 is going to be a defining year for our hospitals, as in February we will announce whether St George's Healthcare NHS Trust and Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have been successful in their bids to merge with St Helier and Epsom (respectively).
