New £53,000 mobile x-ray unit at Epsom Hospital Arman Medina from our diagnostic imaging department and Gary Carey, Mark Buckton, Mike Wigley from SECamb.It's taken a 72-mile sponsored walk and weeks of fundraising, but thanks to the hard work of Epsom Medical Equipment Fund and 17 members of staff from the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECamb), a new mobile x-ray unit has arrived at Epsom Hospital. 19 January 2012

Anthea met with Chief Executive Matthew Hopkins, Chief Operating Officer Karen Breen and key members of staff from the unit, before cutting the ribbon to the new state-of the-art scanner. 10 November 2011

The new ultrasound scanner, which was funded by the St Helier and Sutton League of Friends, can be used to examine any part of the body and help diagnose a wide range of illnesses. 07 October 2011

The seven week programme deals with every aspect of cancer, from the first diagnosis. It includes topics from diet and nutrition to how cancer affects the human body, and from relaxation to complementary therapies. 06 May 2011

  • Support from doctors for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month Even healthy men should consider booking a prostate examination once they reach their fifties.Top doctors at Epsom and St Helier hospitals are backing Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and are urging men to take their health seriously. On average, one in nine men will experience prostate cancer during their lifetime. Currently around a quarter of a million men are living with the disease in the UK and by the end of the year another 37,000 will be diagnosed. It is the most common form of cancer in men - and this year alone, 10,000 men will die as a consequence. 23 March 2011

  • Skin cancer experts call to cut VAT on sun cream Chris HarlandA skin cancer expert who works at Epsom, St Helier and Sutton hospitals is backing a campaign to cut the VAT paid on sun cream. The campaign, which calls for the government to slash VAT on sun cream from the normal 17.5% to a 5% levy charge, follows figures that show skin cancer is the UK's fastest growing cancer and the second biggest killer of young men under the age of 35. 12 August 2010
  • Trust buys time with new pharmacy prescription software The Trust's pharmacy department is responsible for all our inpatients and outpatientsThe pharmacy department at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust has embarked on an ambitious project to reduce the number of phone calls nursing staff have to make. From 1 July, new prescription software will mean that nurses, doctors and other medical staff at St Helier Hospital will no longer have to pick up the phone and call the pharmacy department to find out when patients' prescriptions are ready. 26 July 2010

  • News just in - Sir Trevor McDonald visits hospital Sir Trevor McDonald paid a special visit to Epsom Hospital last week to officially present a new piece of equipment to the histology department.The news presenter and broadcaster Sir Trevor McDonald visited Epsom Hospital on Tuesday (20 October) to present a brand new piece of equipment to the histopathology department. Sir Trevor visited the Trust to present a writer machine - a state-of-the-art device that prints a unique patient identification number and barcode on tissue samples - on behalf of the Epsom Medical Equipment Fund. 28 October 2009

  • 'Operation Butterfly' takes flight Lydia JonesA new fundraising campaign to help build a support centre for cancer patients and their loved ones at St Helier Hospital has been launched. The campaign, known as 'Operation Butterfly', is a joint initiative between the Sutton Guardian and the Trust and aims to raise £10,000 over the next few months. Fundraisers and volunteers at the Trust have already raised £40,000 towards the project. 28 September 2009

  • Local MP reopens refurbished laboratory MP Chris Grayling with consultant microbiologists Justin Bendig and Sharon ChambersChris Grayling, MP for Epsom and Ewell, visited West Park on 29 July to officially reopen the Trust's virology laboratory. The laboratory, which forms part of the Trust's microbiology department, is used to test for viruses such as HIV and influenza - more recently - swine 'flu. It has been refurbished over the past five weeks, with the work costing £77,000. 19 August 2009
