Trust announces next steps on de-merger plans In late January 2012, St George's Healthcare NHS Trust withdrew their bid to merge with St Helier Hospital. Last Tuesday, the special committee (known as the Transaction Board) in charge of overseeing the de-merger of Epsom and St Helier hospitals met to discuss the next steps. 13 February 2012
St George's decide not to proceed with merger process St George's Healthcare NHS Trust have informed us and our strategic authority, NHS London, that they cannot proceed with their bid to merge with St Helier and Sutton hospitals. De-merger update - assessment of bids Local people and our patients will be aware that our Trust is unable to achieve foundation trust status in its current form. As such, a special committee (known as a Transaction Board) was set up to explore and, once approved, implement alternative options. Your chance to learn about next steps for hospitals Two further meetings have been arranged so that members of the public can learn more about how Epsom, Sutton and St Helier hospitals intend to achieve foundation trust status. This will see the hospitals de-merge and merge with others. Royal Surrey withdraw from merger bid On 4 October 2011, we were informed by Royal Surrey County NHS Foundation Trust that they are no longer planning to bid to merge with Epsom Hospital and are withdrawing from the process. Royal Surrey's reasons for doing this are linked to their other strategic priorities and they have been very clear with us that it is no reflection on Epsom Hospital, our staff or the services we provide. 05 October 2011
Criteria announced for judging new hospital partners The special board in charge of demerging Epsom and St Helier hospitals to ensure they achieve foundation trust status has announced the criteria by which the organisations bidding to partner them will be judged. Board outlines next step towards achieving foundation trust status At its monthly meeting on Friday (10 December), the Board agreed that the Trust is unable to become a foundation trust in its current form and that it needs to explore alternative options. The decision comes after the new Government restated its commitment to all NHS hospitals becoming foundation trusts (or part of one) and added a deadline for it happening by March 2014. 14 December 2010
