Mr Richard Field, a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the Elective Orthopaedic Centre at Epsom Hospital was based at Tataouine regional hospital, located near the Libyan border in southern Tunisia. 12 May 2011
  • 'Organ donations rise but we still need more' says senior doctor Renal patient Steve PurcellNew figures show that a record number of people donated vital organs at Epsom, Sutton and St Helier hospitals last year, bringing a new lease of life to a number of people across the region. Sue Woodcock, the lead nurse for Trust's renal department, will be taking part in the 26.2 mile run later this month to raise vital funds for the South West Thames Institute for Renal Research. 06 April 2011

The unit, which is on Brighton Road, means that patients with renal (kidney) disease will no longer have to come into hospital to dialyse and can do it closer to their own home. 13 October 2010
  • Top job - the Elective Orthopaedic Centre gets national recognition Brian WellsThe Elective Orthopaedic Centre (EOC) at Epsom Hospital has been recognised in a national poll as one of the best employers in healthcare. The annual Healthcare 100 awards polled more than 35,000 health professionals to determine who the best employers in the business are, and thanks to the positive feedback from EOC staff, the centre came away with an award. 26 July 2010

  • Kidney patients given more freedom with home treatment Margaret and William Watkinson learn how to dialyse at homeA drive to increase the number of kidney patients receiving treatment in their own home has been launched by the Trust. More patients are being encouraged to take up 'Home Haemo', a programme which teaches suitable patients how to dialyse in their home, giving them more freedom and more control over their condition and their treatment. 21 June 2010

  • Purley kidney patients get brand new centre Sue Woodcock, lead nurse for renal servicesA new state-of-the-art dialysis centre has opened in Purley, meaning that local kidney (renal) patients can get the treatment they need even closer to their homes. The new Purley satellite centre in Capella Court, Brighton Road allows local kidney patients to use the centre for regular sessions of haemodialysis, rather than having to travel to St Helier Hospital. 08 March 2010

  • Parents remember their son with touching gift to hospital Mr and Mrs Hill with Dr KwanParents of a kidney patient who passed away last year have raised £500 for the renal department at St Helier Hospital, by asking their friends for a donation instead of a gift for their golden wedding anniversary. As Jenny and Brian Hill from Cobham in Surrey celebrated 50 years of marriage, they asked their friends and relatives to remember their son Andrew by making donations to the department that cared for him. 14 December 2009
  • New transplant technique will benefit local kidney patients Steve Purcell, a renal patient at St Helier Hospital in CarshaltonLocal kidney patients are being given new hope from a pioneering transplant technique, which allows surgeons to transplant a kidney from donor to recipient even if their blood types do not match. This new technique, which was performed by the transplant team at St George's Healthcare NHS Trust for the first time in September, is only available at a handful of trusts across the country and in Europe. 30 November 2009
  • Brand new kidney unit set to open its doors in Sutton Joint lead renal nurse Susie MallinderA new dialysis centre will open in the centre of Sutton next month (December 8), so that local kidney (renal) patients will be able to get the treatment they need even closer to their homes. The new satellite centre in Grove Road, Sutton, will offer kidney patients from Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust the opportunity to use the centre to undergo haemodialysis. 26 November 2009

  • Pensioner stays young at heart 21 years after major organ transplant Jacqueline Ladbroke, from SuttonTwenty one is a special age for anyone, but for one patient at St Helier Hospital, that number is certainly something to celebrate, as she marks 21 years since her combined heart and lung transplant. Sutton resident Jacqueline Ladbroke, aged 69, underwent her heart and lung transplant on October 31 1988, after being diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension. 26 October 2009

  • Record number of patients use satellite centres Max CliffordThe number of patients using the Trust's renal satellite dialysis centres has topped 400 for the first time. The centres, based at Crawley, Croydon, Farnham, West Byfleet and Kingston, are used by patients from across south west London, Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire and save them from having to travel to hospital unnecessarily. 03 March 2009
