Palliative care

Palliative care is a form of medical care that concentrates on reducing the severity of disease symptoms, rather than trying to cure or halt the progression of the disease itself.

The palliative care team works together with other disciplines to provide support and information for patients, their family and friends. We are experienced in helping people cope with the problems they may face when cancer (or any other serious illness) has been diagnosed; for example managing pain and other symptoms, or emotional issues.

Core team members:

  • Consultants in palliative medicine

  • Clinical nurse specialists

  • Senior social worker

  • Secretarial and admin support

Cancer information and support centres

The cancer information and support centres at Epsom and St Helier hospitals offer information and support to anyone affected by cancer.
