Troponin

A Troponin value of greater than 0.04 ug/L suggests evolving acute myocardial infarction (AMI).

To exclude acute cardiac damage, serial samples are required. A further rise suggests AMI. A rise to a value exceeding 0.1 ug/L is highly suggestive of AMI.

A Troponin I value that remains stable suggests cardiac damage secondary to another pathophysiology. A diagnosis of AMI requires a change in troponin values in the appropriate clinical context.

A Troponin value of less than 0.04 ug/L indicates that no cardiac damage is detected.

To exclude acute cardiac damage serial samples are required. If all samples remain <0.04ug/L acute myocardial infarction is excluded.
