Our clinical services
Education
We provide high quality structured educational programmes for people with type 2 and type 1 diabetes mellitus. Educational activites are carried out in groups and individually at the diabetes centres and at other sites in the community.
We also have an active and highly regarded educational programme for doctors, nurses and other staff involved in diabetes care, including the Warwick Certificate in diabetes care.
Specialist clinics
We provide rapid assessment of new problems in people with diabetes in a full range of specialist clinics. Many of these clinics are multidisciplinary and multi-specialty, covering:
We run specialist nurse-led clinics for people with problems with blood glucose control, continuous glucose monitoring, and insulin initiation or intensification of insulin treatment regimens.
We offer an insulin pump therapy service, which is operated and supported by a fully trained multidisciplinary team. We also run an innovative, dedicated clinic for people receiving insulin pump therapy.
The team
Our highly experienced and integrated teams include diabetes physicians, diabetes specialist nurses, specialist dietitians, a diabetes psychiatrist, specialist optometrist, and diabetes specialist podiatrists.
Primary Care Trust-employed members of our team provide services within the diabetes centres, and at Robin Hood Lane Health Centre, Sutton and The Wilson, Mitcham.
Referrals
Urgent referrals to the diabetes team, both outpatient and inpatient, are seen on the same day if necessary. We provide inpatient care for people admitted with diabetic emergencies, and daily inpatient diabetes reviews by our specialist nurses for people with diabetes who are admitted for problems. In addition, there is a weekly consultant-led diabetes ward round.
