An extensive range of surgery is carried out at the Trust, including:

  • ear, nose and throat 

  • general surgery

  • ophthamology (eye)

  • oral

  • orthodontics

  • plastics 

  • trauma and orthopaedics

  • urology.

All emergency surgery takes place at St Helier Hospital, while all elective (pre-booked) surgery takes place at Epsom Hospital, Sutton Hospital and St Helier Hospital.

  • Anaesthetics The anaesthetics department provides anaesthesia service for all types of surgery across the Trust.
  • Endoscopy The endoscopy unit is based at St Helier Hospital and offers a range of gastro-intestinal diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • High dependency unit Intensive care and high dependency units support Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust on both acute hospital sites.
  • Intensive treatment unit Intensive care and high dependency units support Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust on both acute hospital sites.
  • Otorhinolaryngology (ear, nose and throat surgery) Ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgery can be required for a large number of conditions: from 'tonsils and adenoids', now a relatively rare operation, to the complex cochlear implantation for deafness or the treatment of head and neck cancer.
  • Ophthalmology (eye surgery) The Ophthalmology (eye surgery) department provides a wide range of general clinics as well specialist eye care services at Epsom, Sutton and St Helier hospitals.
  • Oral and Maxillo-facial surgery for adults We are a referral service for dental practitioners and GPs. The backbone of our work is oral surgery for patients with underlying health issues or problematic extractions, dental phobics or anxieties.
  • Pain management Pain is mostly associated with surgery, trauma or acute illnesses such as sickle cell crises, acute pancreatitis, acute ischaemia and longer term illnesses such as cancer and chronic pain, for example, chronic pancreatitis, pelvic pain, back pain, ischaemic leg pain and musculo-skeletal pain.
  • Plastic surgery We offer a general plastic surgery clinic which includes hands, skin cancer and small breast surgery. We offer a high standard of care in a local setting, under local anaesthetic with full follow-up for wound dressings.
  • Urology Urology is a surgical speciality, covering the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, prostate and reproductive organs.   • Trauma and orthopaedics The trauma and orthopaedics department of the Trust provides acute care for patients with musculoskeletal injuries (such as fractures and dislocations) as well as planned care for patients with bone and joint disorders and the care of children with orthopaedic problems.
