Anaesthetic antenatal clinic

In this clinic we see all women with medical disorders or anaesthetic complications, and anyone who wants to discuss their options for pain relief in labour. A lot of women have "bad" backs and are concerned about having an epidural, so we review all of those as well.

The clinics are held on Wednesday afternoons (about three per month), run by the consultants Dr Renwick and Dr Volikas with assistance from midwives, specialising in high risk cases. Patients are referred to the clinic from either the consultant obstetricians or the midwives.

There is a referral form for the clinic, and we generally review the patients after 24 weeks' gestation.

Anaesthetic staff are on duty 24 hours a day on the labour ward.
